Yesterday late news - Red flanked Bluetail at Clot

Today we visited Clot de Galvaney in search of the 1st winter female Red-flanked Bluetail that had been found whilst we were in Gibraltar. After 3 hours searching all we had managed to turn up were Robins and Black Redstarts, never mind!

We decided that we would go and check out an area of agricultural land near Los Montesinos that has occasionally turned up some good birds in the past, as we were in the mood for finding things after our dip at Clot! This turned out to be a great decision when we found a superb and very showy Black-shouldered Kite. This is the first Black-shouldered Kite we have found in the local area (15km from home) and hopefully will stick around for a while. Eventually leaving the kite to its feeding we took a stroll around the farmland, recording 23 Golden Plover and a single Great Egret (below).
